Collage as Shadow Work: Exploring the Unconscious Mind

I debuted my Shadow Work Workshop in New Orleans at Kolaj Fest 2026. Using my 48"x48" collage “Eat Your Heart Out” as an example, participants learn how to be more vulnerable in their creative practice by intentionally engaging with their unconscious mind. Through collage making and guided discussion, participants explore how to excavate their own shadow through visual storytelling and consider the role of shame, personal history, lineage, and joy in that process. The goal of this workshop is for participants to better understand the hidden emotions and aspects of self that drive their art and potentially clear unseen blockages in their practice. Participants tend to unlock deeper truth and magic in both their creativity and self and leave feeling more empowered than when they arrived. Drawing on my trauma-informed training working with survivors of gender-based violence, my extensive program coordination skills, and my spiritual training as an occult practitioner, I cultivate a transformational space that respects capacity, honors consent, and ensures levity and presence throughout.
